“I joined Akiem’s Sales Department as a work-study trainee in 2014. I’m Hungarian and I wanted to work for an international company in the rail industry, which is what led me to apply to Akiem. My job as a Sales Kay Account Manager involves me in many different areas: carrying out market research, prospecting for clients, preparing offers, drafting client contracts in close cooperation with the legal team, monitoring contracts with the technical teams, client relationships and so on. It’s a fascinating career that involves working in the field as well as the office.

My areas of responsibility are evolving, I now work mostly with the eastern and central European markets, recently directly from Budapest. Excellent career prospects and autonomy at a company where staff are really trusted, that’s what it means to work at Akiem.”

“I joined the team at Akiem in 2009, not long after it was first set up. My very first task was to create the Legal Affairs Department! I’ve worked on creating and overseeing legal formalities, drafting and reviewing lease agreements and supplier contracts, managing insurance for our locomotive fleet, multi-million-euro procurement contracts, formation of new legal entities, increasing the share capital and so on. Akiem Group has grown considerably since the early days. Today, my team and I work both with people from Akiem and from mgw Service, and I also act as company secretary to all Group companies. These missions are international and very varied, and we solve numerous challenges on a daily basis, that’s what Akiem Group stands for.”

“As Head of Accounts for Akiem Group, I oversee sound management of all the company’s financial flows. This has involved a steady stream of challenges and changes from the start: from defining analytical dimensions and setting up a suppliers’ database, the arrival of a contract, then another – we now have dozens -, and the formation of new companies, to the arrival of a new shareholder. The company’s activities have accelerated, the team has grown and the impacts of internationalisation are now felt more than ever in our work.”

Marion, Communications work-study trainee, Akiem group - Paris

 

“I’m on a 12-month contract as a communications assistant with Akiem group and I’m involved in delivering a wide range of projects, from print to web to events. The communications team works to support change, from the constant growth of Akiem Group to the arrival of mgw Service. There are so many great ideas and the rail industry is full of surprises! I particularly enjoy the company culture and the chance to combine professional experience with study: people here know how to share and listen, which really helps me to conquer new challenges!”

Pascal, Locomotive Type’s Engineer, Akiem - Düsseldorf

“As an engineer in charge of Traxx locomotives operating in Germany and central Europe, I measure levels of availability, reliability and safety across the fleet. I also oversee our maintenance strategy for the short, medium and long term, suggesting technical action plans to improve our rolling stock and satisfy our clients. Working with our procurement teams, I help to define maintenance and servicing operations and am involved in contractor approvals, contract management and supervision.

Although my role is fundamentally technical, I keep a firm eye on costs too! I also oversee and manage maintenance contracts with our suppliers, adapting them as needed to suit our clients’ requirements. I provide the technical and financial lead for my fleet of locomotives – it’s an extremely varied working life.”

 

Tatiana, Operational Fleet Manager, Akiem - Paris

“As an Operational Fleet Manager, my day-to-day role is to manage and maximise the performance of Akiem’s fleet of locomotives leased to our clients, to ensure the best possible operational availability rate. I contribute to decision-making about how and when to deliver locomotive maintenance, and I deliver specific proposals tailored to match my clients’ types of activities.

There is also an administrative side to what I do, as I’m responsible for ordering and accepting technical services. I work very closely with the Technical Key Account Managers and engineers responsible for improving our offers and the quality of our services. It’s a real team effort.”

Matthieu, Project engineer, Akiem - Paris

“I work in the Engineering Department and am in charge of technical projects such as acquiring locomotives and installing new equipment to rolling stock. I’m involved at the very early stages of projects, providing technical expertise to the Sales and Procurement teams, mainly in terms of signing off on the technical prerequisites for a project. I also run the safety studies needed to obtain approval for any modifications from safety regulators. I then organise the deployment of each project right the way through until the guarantee period expires.

I have a very wide range of missions, with real responsibility and considerable autonomy. That’s what I love about working for Akiem.”

Slawomir, Technical key account manager Poland-France, Akiem - Paris

“I work with the sales team before every lease contract is agreed, designing and putting in place a maintenance solution tailored to meet the client’s needs. Once the lease contract is signed, I oversee delivery of the services and make sure that we are meeting our contract obligations to the client. Along with the sales project manager, I’m responsible for ensuring the overall cost-effectiveness of our contracts.

I work very closely with our Sales Key Account Manager, engineers and all the other departments at Akiem. I also stay in regular contact with our clients, which is one of the things I love about this job. It’s the key to building great relationships with clients.”
